On the 30th of October 2025, the Accra chapter of the Youth Without Borders Ghana embarked on a Career Guidance (“I Empower”) workshop at the Kwabenya Cluster of Schools located at Kwabenya, Accra, in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. The event brought together 231 Form 3 students from three different Junior High Schools within the cluster. Due to limited space, the students were divided into two groups, and the program was conducted in two sessions within their respective classrooms.

The first session started at 9:00 a.m., and the second session commenced at 11:00 a.m. The program began with an assessment of students’ current knowledge and understanding of various career paths across different learning areas. Participants were then introduced to the concept of self-awareness and encouraged to identify their strengths, interests, and goals to make informed career decisions. This was followed by a presentation on the various SHS learning tracks and their corresponding career opportunities. A question-and-answer session allowed students to express concerns and seek clarification on issues of interest.

The sessions were led by Priscilla Obah-Lateo and assisted by Rhodaline Arthur, with teachers providing essential support to maintain order. It was revealed that, whiles some students had a preferred career and as well knew the corresponding courses to take, others also had little knowledge on the required SHS course to take in other to achieve it. Some students were not sure of which course to take to become a footballer, a pilot, an architect. Other students also expressed their uncertainty on the career path to take since their interest was different from what their parents wanted them to do. Teachers expressed great satisfaction with the event, commending Youth Without Borders Ghana for its relevance and impact. Several teachers recommended that the program be organized annually and extended to other schools to benefit more students.
The “I Empower” program successfully achieved its objectives by equipping students with the knowledge and motivation to make informed career decisions. Youth Without Borders Ghana remains committed to empowering young people through education, guidance, and mentorship.
