BACKGROUND

Close to 2billion of the world’s population is made up of young people between the ages of 15-35 and majority of these young people are in the developing nations mostly in Asia and Africa. This number is increasing at a faster rate calling for the attention of all stakeholders to make sure young people are given greater attention. The world needs to give young people greater investment of time, money, ideas and opportunity to help them realize their full potential so that they can become an integral part of our development agenda. Africa has the largest population of young people in the world. The continent is also considered a youthful one with over 70% of the continent’s total population currently under the age of 35, which reflects a similar statistics of young people in Ghana. These numbers are increasing at an alarming rate and expected to double by 2045.

Young people are the most affected group when it comes to global development challenges such as unemployment, war, corruption, global warming, poverty, inequities among other complexities. This therefore simply means that, more resources must go into their development not only because it is the right thing to do but because they are the best group of people with the right tools for addressing these global development challenges.

Young people in our time stand for certain set of qualities which are hugely and urgently needed for global development. They are ready to be engaged only if they are given the needed recognition and resources. By bringing together young minds, we are very optimistic that their impact on national and global development will hugely be felt.

YWB-GH affirms the fact that, many young people are not showered with adulation and adoration. We are not being armed with tools needed to give us a genuine chance of building a sense of responsibility, dignity, self-worth, emotional, social and psychological well-being. We are simply not being challenged to create our own destinies and independent lives which we so seek. We therefore believe young people should take up the big mandate of defining and creating their own heritage and future.

We have the full conviction that YWB-GH is our Voice because it taps into our talents(our natural gifts and strengths), fuels our passions (the things that naturally energize, excite, motivate and inspire us), to address this great need (including what the world needs enough to recognize and celebrate youth impacts) of our community and which we strongly feel is drawn by our conscience (that hidden, little voice within that assures us of what is right and what prompts us to actually do it) to meet. By this, we are going to speak and act with strong integrity knowing very well that it’s our purpose.

We believe that, in our global world of huge connectivity, our activities will not only impact our communities and country alone but our continent and the world at large will feel our impact as well.

OUR HISTORY

It all started with passion and desire to make an impact with their skills, knowledge, ideas, networks and exposure. In 2014 Frimpong Musa (Co-founder), who had nurtured the idea of Youth Without Borders Ghana since 2012 spoke to few young outstanding achievers who felt in love with the idea and pledge their membership and support. The first and major outing of YWB-Ghana was when the Co-Founder was interviewed live on TV3 midday news and Ghana Today program on Radio Ghana (GBC) and its 9 regional stations nationwide. This happened on Tuesday 12th August, 2014 in celebration of the 14th edition of the International Youth Day. This was followed by a press statement (http://www.gbcghana.com/1.1806319) which featured on many other platforms.

Founded in 2014, Youth Without Borders Ghana was incorporated under the Republic of Ghana’s Companies Act, 1963 (Act 179) on the 17th February, 2016 with registration number CG011192016 as Youth Development Non-Governmental and Non-Profit Youth Organization.

Youth Without Borders Ghana is also registered with the National Youth Authority (NYA) Ghana with registration number ERNYA/N/YD/84 as a youth organization and the Department of Social Welfare of the Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection as a Non-Governmental Organization.
